Automatic irrigation system

Back to dictionary

The automatic irrigation system allows you to irrigate the site without human intervention at any time, regardless of weather conditions. Autowatering can be ordered on a turnkey basis, or you can mount it yourself, if you figure out what elements it consists of and on what principle it functions.

The essence of automatic irrigation is to bring water to certain areas of the site and be able to turn it on and off, as well as adjust the intensity of irrigation according to a given schedule or simply at will. All elements of the system are divided into two groups.

Highway

The main delivers water to the right place of the site. This group includes pipes, hoses, wires and other communications, as well as pipe fastening elements - fittings and plugs.

The basis of the auto-irrigation line is low-pressure polyethylene (HDPE) pipes. This material has elasticity and excellent corrosion resistance, so it can be used outdoors all year round.

Fittings are the connecting elements of the line. They can be of various shapes, depending on the piping scheme. Installation takes place manually, in a compression way, the movable element of the fitting is clamped until the connection is completely sealed.

Drip irrigation tube is a flexible tube with a diameter of about 16 mm with holes (emitters) along the entire length for root watering of plants.

Equipment

The group of equipment includes all working units of the automatic irrigation system.

Water storage tank. It is necessary for storage, settling and natural heating of water entering the automatic irrigation system. The wider the irrigated area, the larger the tank should be.

Pump is the node that makes the whole system work. Pumps water from the tank, turns on and off depending on the setting mode and weather conditions.

Valvesdivide the irrigation network into zones, allowing you to install smaller diameter pipes and a lower performance pump to save on equipment costs and increase system efficiency.

Sprinklers or sprinklers are points where water enters the site. There are various configurations (fixed, retractable, movable). Turns on automatically when water enters.

Nozzles - regulate the operation of sprinklers, as well as the direction and radius of irrigation. Depending on the external conditions, the appropriate types of nozzles are installed on the sprinklers.

Controller or control panel - an electronic unit with which the system is set to the desired on-off mode, the type and intensity of irrigation is regulated.

Filtersare used to protect the irrigation system from impurities contained in the water.

Weather Sensorfeeds the weather conditions to the control panel, so the system can work more efficiently: turn off when it rains and water more often in hot and dry weather.

The equipment of the automatic irrigation system is installed on the site in a special box made of durable plastic, resistant to temperature extremes and corrosion. The box is dug in at ground level and gives access to the nodes of the system.

It is necessary to draw up a plan for the installation of equipment, depending on the geometry of the site, landscape features and the location of green areas that need irrigation. The quantity is also calculated and the appropriate type of connecting fittings, couplings and filters is determined, the appropriate pump and tank volume are selected. All elements are applied to the site plan, after which the equipment is installed and configured.
