Plasterboard or Drywall is a popular construction and decorative material, being a sheet comprised by two layers of reinforced thick paper and a hard plaster interlayer. To meet required specifications, manufacturers apply various additives or treatment agents, offer boards of whatever size and thickness. Therefore, to ensure longevity, appropriate plasterboard should be selected for each and every application.

PB grades according to properties and respective applications:

Standard plasterboard is usually grey with blue marks; most commonly used grade (walls, partitions, ceilings in dry rooms with low humidity).

Fire resistant plasterboard is grey or beige with red marks; contains special additives to improve fire resistance so as to achieve fire rating of 20 minutes; intended for high-temperature or fire-hazard applications (attics, walls near stoves or fireplaces).

Moisture resistant plasterboard is green with blue marks; contains silicone and water repellents, optionally may contains anti-mould additives; intended for high-humidity applications (kitchen, bathroom, shower room, toilets) through its ability to withstand continuous exposure to high humidity (up to 85%) within 10 hours, provided that the face is treated with waterproof materials (tiles, primer, treatment agent).

Fire & moisture resistant plasterboard is green with red marks; a combination of properties of the fire resistant and moisture resistant grades.

Gypsum fibreboard, or reinforced PB, is much stronger due to cellulose additive to the gypsum; applicable to heavy loaded structures.

Faсade plasterboard is yellow. These strong panels capable of withstanding wind loads, exposure to humidity and temperature fluctuations, are intended for exterior applications (façade cladding, small architectural forms).

PB types according to the edge shape:

  • Rectangular
  • Wedge
  • D-faced
  • D-faced wedge
  • Round

In addition, plasterboard differs by sheet dimensions (length × width):

  • 1200 × 2000 mm
  • 1200 × 2500 mm
  • 1200 × 3000 mm

Thickness may differ, as well, for various applications:

  • Walls – 12.5 mm
  • Ceiling – 9.5 mm
  • Archways – 6.5 mm — bendable glass-fibre reinforced flexible sheets.
